Philippe Weisbecker’s sketches of greenhouses in Benjamin Somerhalder’s new book, Greenhouse Studies are simple, stunning and something I ‘ve never given much thought to. Weisbecker believes greenhouse’s are one of the few structures still undhindered by constant shifts in architectural fashions. They serve such a simple and perfect purpose which is why they don’t change.
“I have always been interested by ‘things,” Weisbecker explains, “and in trying to understand the feeling of an object, or the mystery of it. That’s something that fascinates me about greenhouses: their mystery — the fact they preserve an interior world you can’t immediately access from the exterior. I really love the idea of not being able to see inside.”
