Eduard Imhof

As you probably have sensed by now, we at Upstate love a good combination of science and art… and here is yet another fine specimen. Eduard Imhof is responsible for the beautiful relief-shaded drawing and painting of many Swedish atlases and school maps from the 1920s to the 1970s. Many of his maps were carefully measured in field expeditions but he also produced unmeasured ‘map paintings’ and an abundance of landscape sketches. More on Imhof here at the ETH website.
