Patrick Demarchelier published a retrospective on dior haute couture from 1947- present. I love all of it- poses + lighting + back drop + makeup + of course the clothes.
Spring/Summer 1948

The Chinati Foundation is a contemporary art museum located in Marfa, Texas and started by Donald Judd. Old army barracks and artillery sheds house different installations by artists Dan Flavin, John Chamberlain, John Wesley, Carl Andre, Claes Oldenburg, and Ilya Kabakov amongst a few others. It’s worth taking the full day tour to fully emerse yourself in the chinati way.
Judd says it best- ”It takes a great deal of time and thought to install work carefully. This should not always be thrown away. Most art is fragile and some should be placed and never moved again. Somewhere a portion of contemporary art has to exist as an example of what the art and its context were meant to be. Somewhere, just as the platinum iridium meter guarantees the tape measure, a strict measure must exist for the art of this time and place.”
Long live Donald Judd!
Christine of N’east Style wrote a nice piece about us over at Terrific Magazine.
Friend and artist Lisa Solberg has been painting and drawing for as long as she can remember. Her expressive art is influenced by raw industrial spaces, intense contrasts, abstract shadows, the force of water and raw emotion. She uses everything from acryllic paints to chinese markers, makeup and nail polishes. During my last visit to LA, she was finishing up her homage to Mcqueen mural. Mcqueen and fashion in general are other major influences in Lisa’s work.
who is this artist? i can’t find any information about him on the internet. but these paintings are so good! [via butdoesitfloat]
Within 1.5 hours of entering Marfa, we piggy-backed onto a friend’s tour of DONALD JUDD’S residence in “downtown” Marfa. In the 1970s, Judd acquired some land and continued to purchase more buildings giving each one a specific purpose (studios, libraries, archives, office, residence and winter residence). The cement floored/tin roofed library was my favorite area. The walls are lined with carefully organized books with a long table down the middle knolling out more books, some wooden treasures, his hat, pieces of found nature etc. The books are organized by genre then put in chronological order by each author’s birthday. There’s a no touch policy however if you go HERE you can browse through the library collection and find the closest library carrying the book! This tour was the perfect start to our Marfa stay.
